When a man is accused of cheating at poker in the town of Rincon, Colorado, gambler Van Morgan (Dean Martin) tries to intervene on his behalf, but his attempts fail and the man is lynched. Sometime later, Morgan hears that members of the lynch mob have begun turning up dead, each one of them murdered by hanging, and he decides to return to Rincon to investigate.
